Lakeway, TX – (SAS SUPPORTS STUDENTS’ RIGHT TO SELF-DEFENSE)
Second
Amendment Sisters actively supports the ConcealedCampus.org demonstrations
October 22 through 25 at colleges and universities nationwide. That
week members of the group will wear empty holsters to classes and
other events in protest of their inability to protect themselves
while on campus.
We
have a right to life. We have a right to protect that life and the
lives of those around us. We have a right to the means to do so.
None
of us wants to use lethal force against another human being. Some
would not want to use lethal force even if they were under imminent
threat. We would never insist that everyone do so.
However,
the choice to live or die; the choice to use force to defend one’s
life or to refrain from using force belongs to the individual. We
ask that each individual be given that choice.
We
have young people who make the choice of protection. These are young
people who have considered their options and chosen to protect their
lives and the lives of others. Young people who have obtained Concealed
Carry Permits in their various states, and carry handguns concealed
on their person wherever they go.
Unless
they go onto a college campus. Then, they must disarm and go unprotected,
even though colleges have been the target of disenfranchised students
and others who have visited their rage on the innocent. They go
disarmed even though colleges also have incidents of rape and other
violent crime.
When
the right to protect one’s life is taken away, the right to life
is taken away. We understand that the police are not able to protect
everyone all the time. Not only is this impossible, but the Supreme
Court has ruled that it is an unreasonable expectation. The police
cannot be responsible for each individual, only for the general
population.
The
obvious conclusion is that individuals must be responsible for themselves.
Yet, college regulators make it impossible for individual students
and faculty to protect themselves.
Second
Amendment Sisters applauds the young people of ConcealedCampus in
their efforts to change these dangerous policies. When parents send
their children off to college, they do so with the basic belief
that those children will return home. It is time to eliminate the
‘gun-free zones’, which keep out only the guns of the honest and
decent.
Second Amendment Sisters is a grassroots organization dedicated
to preserving the individual basic human right to self-defense.
